Temple vs. Wake Forest Game Overview

The Owls have enjoyed one of their best seasons in years with a straight-up record of 10-3 that includes a 7-1 run through the AAC. Everything culminated with a 34-10 victory against Navy in the conference title game as one-point underdogs. Best of all for bettors, Temple went a highly profitable 12-0 ATS in its last 12 games after failing to cover in its season opener. The total has stayed UNDER in its last five games.

It remains to be seen just how much affect the departure of head coach Matt Rhule has in this game after he decided to move on to the top spot at Baylor, but so far it has not had an impact on the betting lines. This is still a very talented team with a balanced offense that averaged 32.8 points a game complementing a shutdown defense that was tied for 23rd in the nation in points allowed (17.2). The team is left in the very capable hands of assistant head coach Ed Foley, who should have this team ready to go on Dec. 27.

Wake Forest showed some signs of turning the corner this season in the ACC with a promising 4-0 SU start, but the wheels came off from there with just two more wins over its last eight contests. The Demon Deacons come into this bowl game riding a three-game losing streak, but they were able to cover ATS in three of their last four games to finish the season 6-6 SU and 7-5 ATS. The total stayed UNDER in five of their last seven games.

One of the big concerns in this matchup has to be Wake Forest’s ability to score points against a quality defense. It only managed 14 points in a season-ending loss to Boston College and against ACC powers such as Clemson, Florida State and Louisville it tallied a grand total of 31 points. Defensively, the Demon Deacons had their issues as well down the stretch with a points-allowed average of 32.0 over their last three games of the season.

Temple Owls vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons Prediction
This matchup is a classic case of a solid Mid-Major team going up against a marginal team from a major conference. Temple has the personnel on both sides of the ball to make a statement in this game and coming off a conference championship run it will look to close out a very productive season on a high note.
Lay the 13 points on the current betting line for this game and take the Owls to win big against an ACC team to further prove the point that there are too many bowls games.
