Temple at South Florida Game Overview

Temple beat South Florida 46-30 last season as a six-point home underdog on its way to winning the AAC East Division title. With quite a few pieces missing from last year’s championship run, the Owls are off to a straight-up 2-1 start this season while failing to cover against the spread in all three games. They lost to Notre Dame 49-16 in Week 1 as 19.5-point road underdogs and they failed to cover as double-digit favorites at home in victories against Villanova and UMass.

With Logan Marchi taking the snaps at quarterback, Temple is ranked 48th in the nation in average passing yards through the first three weeks, but the absence of its signature running attack has it ranked 117th in average rushing yards a game. The bigger concern right now for the Owls could be a defense that was exposed by the Fighting Irish on opening day. Even UMass was able to move the ball at will through the air with 377 passing yards last Friday night.

The Bulls came into this season as clear favorites to win the AAC title this season and so far they have lived up to all the hype with SU victories against San Jose State on the road and Stoney Brook and Illinois at home. They beat the Fighting Illini 47-23 last week to cover as 16.5-point favorites. The total went OVER the 55-point closing line in that win after staying UNDER in the first two games.

The main reason why South Florida is the highest-ranked Mid Major in the nation is Heisman hopeful Quinton Flowers at quarterback. He has thrown for 678 yards and eight touchdowns in his first three games, but his completion rate stands at just 55.6 percent and he has been picked off twice. What makes him so special is his ability to make plays on the run and he has already added another 243 yards and two scores on the ground. Darius Tice leads the Bulls in rushing with 256 yards and four touchdowns on 48 carries.

Temple Owls at South Florida Bulls Week 4 Prediction
Temple was the better team last season in its run to the AAC Championship, but the gap between the two teams this year swings heavily towards the Bulls. While I do not see South Florida losing this game SU, I do believe the final score will be closer than the current 20.5-point spread given the recent history between these two conference rivals.
