North Carolina at Pittsburgh Game Overview

This has been a forgettable season for the 1-8 Tar Heels including a straight-up six-game losing streak in ACC play. They went into last week’s bye off their best effort of the season in a tight 24-19 loss to undefeated Miami as heavy 21-point home underdogs. It was the first time that North Carolina covered in its last six games as part of an overall record of 2-6-1 against the spread. The total has stayed UNDER in five of its last six games.

One of the biggest reasons why the Tar Heels have been so bad this season is an offense that has struggled to move the ball both through the air and on the ground with a combined total of just 344.3 yards a game. The complete lack of production on this side of the ball has led to a scoring average of 21.3 points per game that is ranked 114th in the nation. North Carolina’s defense has not helped the cause with a points-allowed average of 33.4.

Pittsburgh strung together back-to-back victories against Duke on the road and Virginia at home heading into its Week 10 bye. The Panthers improved to 4-5 SU on the year with a 3-4-2 record ATS. The total stayed UNDER in both of those wins and it has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in eight of nine games this year. Pitt has gone 2-3 ATS in five previous games played at Heinz Field.

This is another ACC team that has had its issues putting points on the board this season with an average of 24.2 PPG, but Pittsburgh did manage to score 31 points against the Cavaliers its last time out. Ben Dinucci completed 10-of-18 pass attempts for 134 yards and a score, but it was the Panthers’ running game with 176 yards on the ground that helped secure that win. Credit Pitts’ defense as well after holding Virginia to just 314 yards of total offense.

North Carolina at Pittsburgh Free Game Prediction
I went with North Carolina earlier in the season against Virginia Tech and paid the price, so I am still going to heavily discount that valiant effort against Miami two weeks ago. This is a bad team that should be looking forward to the end of the season. Pitt is still playing for a spot in a bowl game following a pair of big ACC victories and it knows that it cannot afford to look past this game with both the Hokies and the Hurricanes still on the slate. Lay the 10 points and take the Panthers to cover this Thursday night in prime time.
