The Seminoles fell to 5-3 straight-up with a 4-4 record against the spread with last week’s 37-34 loss to Clemson as four-point home underdogs. The total went OVER the 59-point closing line in that loss after staying UNDER in their previous four games. Florida State has covered in two of three road games this season, but it is just 2-4 ATS when closing as a favorite.

Freshman quarterback Deondre Francois threw for 286 yards and a score in the loss to Clemson and Dalvin Cook added another 169 yards on the ground while rushing for four touchdowns. Florida State has shown some solid balance on offense all season long with 273.4 yards through the air and 206.9 yards on the ground as part of a scoring average of 34.8 points a game. The main reason the Seminoles have been strapped with three losses is a defense that is allowing 29.9 points on the other side of the ball.

NC State started the season on a strong note with four wins in its first five games both SU and ATS, but with last week’s stunning 21-14 loss to Boston College as a heavy 16-point home favorite, it current losing streak has reached three games while going 1-2 ATS. The total stayed UNDER 43 in last week’s loss and it has stayed UNDER in three of its last four games.

The Wolfpack’s offense has basically ground to a halt the past four games with a combined total of just 54 points. Included in that stretch were losses to Clemson and Louisville, but they could not get back on track against Boston College which has to be a cause for concern. Ryan Finley has thrown for 1,815 yards and 13 touchdowns and Matthew Dayes has led the way on the ground with 727 rushing yards and four scores, but it is hard to see this unit keeping pace with the Seminoles this Saturday night given its current form.
