The Tulane Green Wave (4-1) will host the Connecticut Huskies (1-4) for an American Athletic Conference collision on Saturday, October 12th, 2019. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:45 PM ET and broadcast on ESPN+. These three teams have met just three times. The Green Wave has swept the board in terms of producing covers going 3-0 ATS over this span. Tulane also owns the most recent win in this series when they defeated the Huskies 38-13 in Storrs, Connecticut when the two last met in 2016. Tulane was easy money in that spot closing as a 1.5-point favorite.

Last week, a late pick-six by the Memphis Tigers separated us from putting together a 2-1 effort in our selection of plays. Our UTEP +1 play did not produce a win against the spread when the Green Wave were defeated 26-16 by UTSA. We also had UL Monroe +16.5, and we found ourselves within six points of the Tigers in the fourth quarter at one point. As the Hawks once again found themselves with an opportunity to pick up some points and reduce Memphis' lead, Monroe quarterback Caleb Evans tossed a costly interception that was returned for a touchdown. The event pushed us out of the +16.5 range in a 52-33 loss that we chalk up to be a bad beat. We were able to finish strong, however, when we cashed in on our Liberty -6 play in a 20-13 win over New Mexico State.

UConn steps into this game in poor form. The Huskies have now dropped four games in a row after winning their season opener against Wagner on August 29th. Most recently, UConn was defeated 48-22 when they hosted USF on Saturday. Connecticut was nowhere near close to covering as they were priced as a 10.5-point underdog.

The Green Wave come into this game on the heels of a statement victory at West Point, last Saturday. Last week, closing as a two-point road favorite at Army, the Green Wave went onto thump the Black Knights 42-33. Army was not priced as a home dog since 2015, and Tulane lived up to the billing as to why they were the road chalk.

Reasons To Back Connecticut Huskies<br />

Very simply, the number predicates the play here. The Green Wave in recent history has only defeated a FBS football team close to the amount that the market is suggesting here on one occasion. That occurred in 2017 against Tulsa, where the Wave closed as a six-point favorite and ravaged the Canes 62-28. Nonetheless, Tulane was priced close to this number earlier this year when they were a 31.5-point favorite in hosting Missouri State, but that is a FCS team. Tulane would go onto win 58-6 to the delight of backers. However, UConn is a far different animal by contrast and is not a tune-up opponent despite what some may think. Connecticut has already faced some B1G opposition (Illinois and Indiana) along with UCF this season, and their greatest margin of defeat was 35 points (against UCF where they covered as a 42-point dog and also when they were at Indiana priced as a 27.5-point underdog). This is a battle-tested outfit, and Tulane comparatively is actually a step down compared to who the Huskies have faced as of recent. It is hard for me to see Tulane putting up a similar performance to Indiana or Central Florida, so they should not be priced with an expectation to do as such. After all, though UCF has already dropped two games this season, they are nonetheless still regarded as one of the very best mid-major programs in all of America. Indiana is a Power Five constituent. Tulane has neither of those credentials.

Reasons To Avoid Tulane Green Wave<br />

Embellishing upon the aforementioned, this is the biggest number I have seen Tulane spot to a recent opponent that I have been able to research, and quite frankly, it is disrespectful. There is little doubt that this line is a bi-product of an overreaction to Tulane's performance last week against a highly-regarded Army team combined with their overall performance portfolio this season. Now is not the time to get swept up in the hoopla.
