Texas-Kansas College Basketball Betting Preview

The Longhorns are 4-1, both SU and ATS their last five times out after winning at Kansas State Saturday afternoon 69-66. Texas, playing some sloppy ball, trailed by 14 points early and 36-25 at the half. But the ‘Horns used a 21-9 run out of the locker room to take a 46-45 lead. Texas later trailed by a point with under a minute to go but scored the last four points to steal the W.

Following a cold start, the Longhorns ended up shooting 45 percent from the floor Saturday while holding the Wildcats to 44 percent. And while Texas turned the ball over 17 times, they received 19 K-State TOs.

Two games ago, the Longhorns out-shot Baylor 47-37 percent, won 76-71 and covered at -4.

Stretching back into December, Texas is now 12-3 SU, although only 6-9 ATS, since canning its head coach.

The Jayhawks, meanwhile, are just 2-4 both SU and ATS over their last six games after falling at Iowa State Saturday 68-53. Kansas led 3-2 early but never again and trailed 32-21 at the half. The Jayhawks got within five at 36-31 early in the second half but faded badly from there, later trailing by 19, and whiffed ATS at +1.

Kansas shot just 39 percent from the floor Saturday, allowed the Cyclones to shoot 46 percent, and lost the turnover battle 20-10.

Back a month ago, the Jayhawks lost three games in a row to Kansas State, TCU, and Baylor. Which is a tough slate of foes right there. Kansas then won at Kentucky 77-68, then beat K State 90-78.

Sagarin ranks the Jayhawks' schedule as the toughest - No. 1 - in college basketball so far this season.

Big-picture, at 8-2 in conference play, Texas leads the Big 12 by one game over Iowa State and by two games over 6-4 Kansas.

Bigger picture, both these teams, barring disaster, are shoo-ins to make the NCAA tournament.

Texas at Kansas Prediction ATS 2/6/23
Texas is the hotter team at the moment, but Kansas has been playing a brutal schedule. Also, the Jayhawks are probably the better defensive team in this match-up. Also, Kansas might be ripe for a bounce-back effort here, following a poor one last time out. They’re probably favored by a bucket too much, but we’ll give the points and take the Jayhawks.
