Portland Trailblazers at Sacramento Kings Overview

Portland Trailblazers

The Trailblazers were upstaged on their own court when they locked horns with the Denver Nuggets in Rip City. Closing as a 1.5-point home underdog, the Trailblazers fell to the Nuggets by a final score of 108-100.

Sacramento Kings

The Kings were throttled in their opening fixture of the 2019-20 NBA Season when they traveled to the desert to face off with divisional rival, Phoenix. Closing as a one-point favorite, the Kings were on the bitter end of a 124-95 rout by the Suns.

Reasons to Avoid Portland

Against the Nuggets in their home-opener, the Blazers hit just 25% of their three-point attempts, which raises concern considering that Rip City was ice-cold from beyond the arc in their own stead. This is a basketball team known for playing at a higher level in their own arena. Which raises the question as to how they will fare now on the road in their follow-up? If Portland launches another set of bricks from downtown, the Kings will assuredly capitalize and use their up-tempo offense to generate some scores. This puts the Blazers in a precarious position when it comes to laying the road points.

Reasons to Back Sacramento

The Kings are in a position to be a value play as they will likely be working with enhanced points in this spot. This can be chalked up to two things. First, the Trailblazers have been a cash cow in this series of late, which makes them all the more prone to being overvalued and laying an inflated number. Secondly, this narrative is only furthered by Sacramento getting blown out by the worst team in the Western Conference in 2018, the Phoenix Suns. The embarrassing loss for the Kings will steer the action away from Sacramento, and that has is what has happened as 73% of the public are on the Blazers here. With all this said, the market opened with Sacramento as a one-point favorite and still will not give them more than a three-point basket. This signals that an “upset” is likely brewing.

Trailblazers at Kings Prediction 10/25/19
We are going to go for the gusto here and trade away the three-pointer to take the Kings outright on the Money Line. Against the Suns, the Kings committed 27 turnovers and were outshot 50% to 39.1% from the field. The turnover situation is ironic considering the Kings were 7th in the NBA in turnovers per game in the 2018-19 season, committing 13.4 turnovers per game. However, the Kings had the worst showing of any team on opening night in this department. In a nutshell, everything went wrong for the Kings, and I would expect them to return to form here with some home cooking behind them. The Kings shot 46.4% from the field on average in the 2018-19 season, and should they get their stroke back along with cleaning things up in their possessions, Sacramento will offer up a completely different challenge to the unsuspecting Blazers that view this as a bounce-back game.
