Golden State at Houston Game Overview

Golden State is back to full strength and rolling right now with Monday’s 119-106 victory in Game 1 as a 2.5-point road underdog. The total stayed UNDER the closing 225.5-point betting line, and it has stayed UNDER in each of its last four games. The Warriors have compiled a straight-up 9-2 record in the playoffs with earlier 4-1 series wins against San Antonio and New Orleans. They have gone 6-5 against the spread in this same span with a 3-2 mark (SU and ATS) in five previous road games.

The star power for Golden State was shining brightly on Monday night at the Toyota Center led by Kevin Durant's team-high 37 points. He connected on 14 of his 27 shots from the field. Klay Thompson hit six three-point shots in 15 attempts as part of a 28-point effort, and Stephen Curry quietly added 18 points and eight assists to the winning cause. The Warriors shot 52.5 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from three-point range. They are averaging 111.1 points per game in the playoffs, and they have exceeded that total in each of their last three games.

The Rockets are now 8-3 SU this postseason following Monday’s loss after eliminating both Minnesota and Utah in five games earlier in the playoffs. They are also 6-5 ATS during this run, and the total has stayed UNDER in four of their last six outings. This was Houston's second SU loss at home in the playoffs after dropping Game 2 to Utah 116-108 as a heavy 11-point favorite. It is now 5-2 SU at home in the postseason with a 3-4 record ATS.

The two top players for the Rockets did their part in Game 1, but the supporting cast is going to have to elevate their game on Wednesday night to help close the gap in scoring. James Harden led all scorers with 41 points while going 14-for-24 from the field and 5-for-9 from beyond the arc. Chris Paul posted his third-straight double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Eric Gordon added 15 points off the bench and the remaining three starters for Houston accounted for a combined 21 points.

Golden State at Houston Prediction 05/16/2018
The total stayed UNDER on the closing line in Game 1, but I cashed in on the OVER with a bet on the total line when it first opened at 224. I am backing off that play on Wednesday night, although I do see a high-scoring game. Look for Houston to join Golden State this time around with a total score higher than its current scoring average in the postseason. I also see the Rockets winning this game both SU and ATS to answer Golden State’s victory in the series opener.
