New York: Seth Lugo (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Atlanta: Jaime Garcia (2-4, 3.21 ERA)

Seth Lugo goes for the Mets today and he will be making his season debut. He has been dealing with an elbow issue that may require Tommy John surgery. He has made four minor league rehab starts in the minors and has gone 19 innings and given up 10 earned runs. Last season Lugo was a rookie and was 5-2 with a solid ERA of 2.67. He faced the Braves once last season picking up a win going six innings and giving up two earned runs in a 10-2 New York win. Last season after losing Lugo’s first start they went on to win his remaining seven.

Jaime Garcia gets the starting nod for the Braves in this division series finale and in his last outing he gave up three earned runs in seven innings in a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Braves have lost three of his last four starts including his last two, but he has been pretty solid in that span giving up four earned runs in 28 innings. In those four games the Atlanta lineup only totaled six runs. One of Garcia’s worst starts of the season came against the Mets in his first start of the season in New York where he gave up four earned runs in six innings in a 6-2 Braves loss. In eight career starts facing the Mets Garcia is 2-4 with an ERA of 3.06. Atlanta has lost four of Garcia’s last five starts against teams from the NL East.

New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction
The Mets have won two in a row and three of their last four games. While their pitching has struggled this season they have only given up a total of eight runs in their last four games. New York is in 2nd place in the NL East 10.5 games back of the Washington Nationals and they have a ½ game lead over Atlanta. Yoenis Cespedes recently returned from the DL and in the first game of the double-header yesterday he hit a grand slam. The Braves had won three in a row before losing both games of the double-header yesterday. In winning those three games they only gave up four runs and then gave up 14 in the double-header. Lugo has a lot of pressure on him in his season debut, as manager Terry Collins stated he may go to a six-man rotation if he has a good outing. He will have a good outing, but Garcia will have the better one. Like his last few starts he will not get much run support, but he will not need much. Like the first game of this series the Braves will win a low scoring affair and salvage a series split.
