Brewers-Mets MLB Betting Odds

Monday's baseball betting lines opened Milwaukee and Woodruff at upwards of -180 over New York and Megill, with an over/under of 7.5 runs. Early betting action then deflated the Brewers 50 cents! As of mid-Monday morning, the best price we could find on Milwaukee was the -130 offered at 5Dimes while the Mets were getting +120 at BetOnline.

Brewers-Mets MLB Betting Preview

Milwaukee just took three of four games at Pittsburgh over the weekend, missing out on the sweep by losing Sunday's series finale 2-0. That loss also snapped an 11-game winning streak for the Brewers.

Going back a bit further, Milwaukee is 4-0 over its last four series and 13-2 over its previous 15 games.

At 51-34 overall, the Brewers lead the NL Central by seven games over second-place Cincinnati, and they're only three games behind San Francisco in the battle for the best record in the National League. Milwaukee is also on a pace to win 104 games, although that's not gonna happen while playing against its season wins over/under of 82.5.

New York, meanwhile, just took two of three games from Yankees in the Bronx over the weekend, missing out on the sweep by losing the nightcap of Sunday's double-header 4-2. Just before that, the Mets dropped two of three in Atlanta, and just before that, they split four games with Philadelphia. Going back a bit further, New York is only 8-12 over its last 20 games.

Nonetheless, the Mets lead the mediocre NL East by 3.5 games over the second-place Braves.

New York is also on a pace to win 87 games playing against its wins O/U of 90.5.

These two teams last met back in 2019, when the Brewers took five of six games from the Mets.

Monday's Pitching Match-Up

Megill is 0/2 on quality starts since getting called up from the Minors a couple of weeks ago. First, in his ML debut, he held Atlanta to two runs and three hits through 4 1/3 innings of a 7-3 New York victory. Then, last Tuesday, he gave up three runs and five hits through five innings of a 4-3 Mets win over Atlanta. So through 9 1/3 innings of ML ball, Megill has allowed five runs and eight hits, including two home runs, with four walks and 12 strikeouts.

New York is 2-0 with Megill, and he can claim some credit for that.

This will be Megill's first-ever start against Milwaukee, which could give him an edge, at least for the first couple of times through the lineup.

Woodruff is an impressive 13/16 on quality starts this year, only twice allowing more than two runs. Last Tuesday, he held the Cubs to one run and four hits through six innings of a 2-1 Brewers win. And just before that, he held Arizona to one run and three hits through seven frames of a 3-2 Milwaukee victory.

The Brewers are 12-4 with Woodruff this season, and they could even be a couple of games better than that.

Over two career starts against the Mets, both in 2019, Woodruff allowed just two runs and 12 hits through 10 innings. Milwaukee won both those games.

Splits With the Sticks

Milwaukee is batting .221 against right-handed pitching this season, with a .309 team OBP and a .377 team slugging percentage.

New York is slashing .229/.308/.366 against RH pitching this season.

Numbers like those cause us to rank both these lineups among the bottom half-dozen or so in Baseball in this split.

Brewers vs. Mets Prediction 7/5/21
Milwaukee comes in hot but what it's really done recently is take advantage of a weak stretch in its schedule. Over the last month, the Brewers played Detroit, Arizona, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Colorado, and the Cubs; as of Monday, only one of those teams was above .500. Also, how often do we see a team go on a significant winning streak, then lose three or four games in a row? Woodruff gets our handicapping check-mark in the pitching match-up, but everything else is about equal, which to us creates some baseball betting value with New York. We're taking the Mets here for our free baseball betting pick for Monday.
