Kansas City: Eric Skoglund (1-1, 4.32 ERA)
San Diego: Jhoulys Chacin (4-5, 5.65 ERA)

Eric Skoglund goes for the Royals tonight and his last start was not a good one only going two innings and giving up four earned runs in a 8-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians. This will be only his 3rd career start and previous to his last outing he had a fantastic MLB debut out-dueling Justin Verlander and going six innings not giving up any runs in a 1-0 win over the Detroit Tigers. Both of Skoglund’s starts this season have been at home.

Jhoulys Chacin gets the call for the Padres and in his last start he went six innings and gave up three earned runs in a bad 10-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies. San Diego has lost his last three starts and after giving up seven earned runs not making it out of the first inning he has given up three earned runs in each of his last two starts. Chacin has pitched well at home on the season where is 2-1 with a stellar ERA of only 1.36. His one career start against the Royals was back in the 2014 season while he was pitching for the Colorado Rockies. The Padres are 0-4 in Chacins last 4 starts following a Quality Start in his last outing and they have lost five of his last six games in Game 1 of a series.

Kansas City Royals vs. San Diego Padres Prediction
The Royals had a modest two-game win streak snapped in their last game and while they are in 4th place in the AL Central and seven games under .500 they are still only 5.5 games out of first place. The Padres have dropped five in a row where they have really struggled at the plate and especially on the mound. In their five-game skid they have given up at least 10 runs three times and they have given up 45 runs while only scoring 10. Still, even with the big-time struggles of San Diego lately they are still the pick in this interleague game. Chacin has been solid at home on the season and he facing a Royals lineup that ranks 2nd to last in the Majors in runs scored and did not get a hit until the 7th inning of their last game. Chacin will lead the way in this one while Skoglund has another tough outing and the Padres will take the first game of this series tonight.
