After dropping four in a row where they gave up 48 runs the Twins have rebounded and have won the first two games of this series. In those games they have outscored the Angels 15 to seven and they are in first place in the AL Central one game up on the Cleveland Indians. The Angels had won two in a row before losing the first two games of this series to send them two games under .500. While L.A, sits in 2nd place in the AL West they are still 12.5 games back of the Houston Astros, who have the best record in baseball and have won eight in a row. Santana has been lights out in most of his starts this season and lit up in two. He will have a good outing in this game facing a L.A. lineup that has only scored eight runs in their last three games. Shoemaker is coming off a subpar start and he will run into some trouble facing a Minnesota lineup that has been getting it done at the plate in the two games of this series. The Twins will get the win in this game and go for the series sweep tomorrow.
The Rays have won three of their last four games and they sit in 4th place in the AL East 4.5 games back of the New York Yankees. Their lineup has been getting it done at the dish lately totaling 30 runs in their last four games. Tampa Bay’s Logan Morrison had 10 HR in the month of May and Corey Dickerson is riding a seven-game hitting streak where he is 13 for 36 and has five doubles. The Mariners had won four in a row before their loss in their last game. Nelson Cruz leads Seattle in both HR and RBI and he left the last game with a hand injury and is a question mark for this one. Odorizzi has been pretty decent lately, but he has not gotten much run support. The big question is which Bergman will show up? The one who has been great in two of his last three starts or the one who was lit up in the start previous to his last one? I think he will have a good outing and the Mariners will win this home game.
The Yankees have won two of their last three games where they combined to score 20 runs in the two wins. They are atop the AL East and while the division race has been tight for a few weeks New York has opened up a three-game lead over 2nd place Boston. The Blue Jays had their three-game winning streak snapped in the loss to the Yankees in Game 1 of this series, but they have won eight of their last 10 games. They are in the basement of the AL East, but still only 6.5 games out of first place. Toronto had combined for 28 runs in their three-game win streak, including scoring 17 in one game, before only scoring two in the loss to the Yankees yesterday. I have to go with the visiting Yankees in this game, as they smoked the Blue Jays yesterday, Michael Pineda has been pretty solid as of late, and Liriano was shelled in his last start.
After a three-game skid the Diamondbacks have rebounded to win two in a row and they are tied with the Colorado Rockies in the NL West only ½ game back of the L.A. Dodgers. Arizona’s lineup has been solid on the season, but has been struggling a bit lately totaling 18 runs in their last five games. Miami is hot winners of four in a row and five of their last six games. However, they are still nine games under .500 and 11.5 games out of first place in the NL East. The Marlins have really been getting it done on the hill and the plate in their four-game win streak where they have totaled 30 runs and only given up seven runs. Dee Gordon is swinging a hot bat for Miami hitting .386 in his last 15 games and in eight of those games he had at least two hits. Greinke was shelled in his last outing, which was on the road and he has not been great away from Arizona this season. Locke will be making his first start for Miami and I think he will have a good one. He will out-duel Greinke and lead the Marlins to their 5th win in a row.
The Red Sox have won two in a row and with them winning eight of their last 10 games they have climbed into 2nd place in the AL East two games back of the New York Yankees. After a seven-game losing streak the Orioles bounced back and they have won two of their last three games. They sit in 3rd place in the AL East 3.5 games back of the Yankees. The Baltimore lineup has been struggling in the last couple of weeks, but they did put up 10 runs in their last game. Rodriguez is coming off a great last start, stymied the Orioles lineup earlier this season in Baltimore, and ranks 8th in the AL in ERA. Miley has struggled in two of his last three starts and while he pitched well in his last home outing the Red Sox bats will ensure that will not happen in this game. While Rodriguez may not hold the Orioles to one hit like he did earlier this season he will have another solid outing facing them and lead Boston to the win.
The Tigers scored 10 runs in the first game of this series and were shut out in the 2nd game. They have lost two of their last three games and sit in 3rd place in the AL Central four games back of the Indians and Twins. The Royals had lost two in a row where they gave up 10 runs in each game before the shutout win in yesterday’s game. They are in last place in the AL East, but still only 5.5 games out of first place. Boyd has really been struggling as of late and he has not had much success in his career facing the Royals. Both of those things will continue, as while Kansas City has scored the fewest runs in the Majors they will get to Boyd tonight. That will be welcomed from Kennedy, who has not gotten much help from the Royals lineup at home this season. He will have a good start picking up his first win of the season leading KC to a W and they will also take the series.
The Dodgers are hot winners of six in a row and seven of their last eight games. They have taken the first two games of this series, outscoring St. Louis 14-5, and they took two of three from the Cardinals in a recent series in L.A. With their surge they have overtaken first place in the NL West and lead the Colorado Rockies by ½ game. In their win streak they have been solid at the plate and on the mound outscoring their opponents 39-12. The veterans have been getting it done for L.A. as of late with Chase Utley having multi-hit games in three of his last four games and Adrian Gonzalez is riding a seven-game hitting streak. While the Dodgers are hot the Cardinals are not losing five of their last six games including three in a row. They are in a tie for 2nd place in the NL Central 1.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers. St. Louis starter Carlos Martinez has not been bad as of late, but the Redbirds simply have not helped him out. That will change in this game. Even though the Dodgers are hot and the Cardinals are struggling St. Louis will get to Ryu tonight and finally give Martinez some run support. He will also have another good start and the Cardinals will snap their losing streak with a win and snap the Dodgers’ winning streak in the process.
The Astros are hot winners of five in a row and seven of their last eight games. They have the most wins in the Majors and in their five-game winning streak they have totaled 38 runs. Houston is tied with the Cleveland Indians for the most road wins in the Majors and while the Twins are over .500 and are in first place in the AL Central they are four games under .500 at home. They have lost two in a row where their pitching has been hammered giving up a total of 24 runs. However, they are still the home betting favorite with Berrios on the hill. The Twins have won his last four starts overall and that is a trend that will continue. Fiers has not pitched well on the road this season, but has received solid run support in his road starts. However, that will not be the case tonight. Berrios will have another solid outing and Minnesota will get the win snapping Houston five-game winning streak.
The Braves have lost two in a row and four of their last five games and they are tied for 2nd place in the NL East with the New York Mets 8.5 games back of the Washington Nationals. In their last two games Atlanta has only totaled four runs. The Angels have lost four of their last five games and they are back at home after a 10-game road trip. Mike Trout injured his thumb in the Angels last game and while X-rays were negative he will have a MRI on Monday. If he is out for this game it will be a big blow since he leads the Angels in batting average, HR, and RBI. However, even if he goes the Braves are the pick with Teheran on the hill. He has been lights out on the road this season and on the other side of the coin Nolasco was less than impressive in his last outing. Teheran will have the better start and lead the Braves to a win in the first game of this interleague series.
The Rays have won four of their last five games and they are in 4th place in the AL East five games back of the New York Yankees. They have been balanced this season and their lineup leads the AL in HR and in their last 12 games they have 23 HR. The Rangers had their five-game losing streak snapped in their last game and while they are only 9-18 on the road this season they are 16-8 at home. They are tied with the L.A. Angels for 2nd place in the AL West, but still 10 games back of the Houston Astros. Perez has been pretty solid as of late giving up a total of seven earned runs in his last three starts. Perez will have a good outing tonight facing a Tampa Bay team that has been playing well lately, but is two games under .500. Texas will take the first game of this series tonight.
The Mets have lost three of their last four games and they had dropped six in a row on the road before beating Pittsburgh in the first game of this series. They are in 3rd place in the NL East 9.5 games back of the Washington Nationals. While New York has dropped three of four the Pirates have won three of their last four games. They are in last place in the NL Central, but still only 3.5 games out of first place. Harvey has had a tough season, but had a good start in his last game. However, the Mets have lost his last four road starts and that is a trend that will continue. In their three wins in their last four games the Pirates have combined for 26 runs and their offense will stay hot in this game getting to Harvey early and often. Pittsburgh will get the win in this game lighting up the scoreboard and they will also get the series win.
The Tigers snapped their three-game losing streak with their win over the White Sox in Game 2 of the double-header yesterday. Their offense has been struggling lately, as they have only totaled seven runs in their last three games. Detroit sits in 3rd place in the AL Central five games back of the Minnesota Twins. The White Sox had won the first tow games of this series, after being swept in a three-game set against the Diamondbacks, before losing the 2nd game of the double-header. They are in 4th place in the AL Central only ½ game back of the Tigers. Zimmerman was decent in his last outing, but had struggled in a few starts before that. On the other side of the coin Gonzalez has really been struggling lately and while the Tigers bats have not been hot lately they will be in this game. Detroit will tag up Gonzalez in this division game and win and salvage a series split.
The Braves had lost two in a row where they gave up a total of 21 runs before getting the shutout win in the first game of this series. While Atlanta is in 2nd place in the NL East they are still 7.5 games back of the Washington Nationals, as they are the only team in the division that is over .500. The Giants are reeling losers of four in a row and five of their last six games. They rank 2nd to last in the Majors in runs scored and in their four-game skid they have only totaled six runs with four coming in one game. San Francisco sits in 4th place in the NL West 12 games back of the Colorado Rockies. Foltynewicz has been pitching well in his last three starts, where he has picked up all of his wins, and Blach has been solid at home all season. This game will be a low scoring affair just like Game 1, but this time around the Giants will come out on top, as Blach will win the pitching duel against Foltynewicz.
The Cubs had their three-game win streak snapped in their last game and in those three games they totaled 14 runs before getting shut out in Game 1 of this series. Chicago is still in first place in the tight NL Central only up ½ game on the Milwaukee Brewers and one game up on the St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers have won two in a row and four of their last five games and in those four wins their pitching has been solid only giving up a total of seven runs. L.A. is in 3rd place in the NL West 2.5 games back of the Colorado Rockies. Lackey has enjoyed success against the Dodgers in his career, but he has not been sharp in his last two starts, especially his last one. On the other side of the coin McCarthy is coming off a great start and he stymied the Cubs earlier this season in the Windy City. Look for that to happen again, as McCarthy will have another strong outing and lead the Dodgers to a win.
This is the first game of a series between a couple of teams that have no love for each other. There have been big time fireworks between these teams in the last few match ups and this game has a lot of tension. After reeling off 10 straight wins the Rangers have lost four of their last five games and they are coming off being swept in a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox. They are tied for 2nd place in the AL West with the L.A. Angels, but still eight games back of the Houston Astros, who have the best record in the Majors. In their last game facing Boston the Rangers struck out 20 times and their pitching was hammered in the series giving up a total of 26 runs in the three losses. They may need some offensive fireworks if Griffin struggles like he did, big time, in his last start. The Blue Jays have won three in a row and after starting the season 6-17, but are 15-9 since. Toronto is still in the basement of the AL East 7.5 games back of the New York Yankees. Bolsinger has not been impressive in his three starts this season and he will not have to be tonight. The Blue Jays will light up Griffin and they will take the first game in this series, which will see a lot of runs put up on the board.
The Mets have lost three of their last four games and in those losses they gave up 22 runs. Their pitching was solid last season, but this season injuries have hit the staff and they rank dead last in the Majors in team ERA. New York is in 3rd place in the NL East and they are 8.5 games back of the Washington Nationals. Scoring runs has been the issue for the Pirates this season, but in winning two in a row they have totaled 21 runs. While they are in the basement of the NL Central they are still only four games out of first place. Both starters are coming off solid last starts, but have to go with the Pirates since they are the hotter team and the Mets have lost their last six road games. Kuhl will have another good outing and the Pirates lineup will stay hot, as Pittsburgh will take the first game of this NL series.
The Cardinals have won two of their last three games, but before that had lost four in a row. All of those four losses were at home and St. Louis has a better road record than home record. They had won 9 straight on the road before losing the first game of this series. The Cardinals are in a tie with the Chicago Cubs in 2nd place in the NL Central only ½ game back of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Dodgers had won two in a row before losing yesterday and they are in 3rd place in the NL West 3.5 games back of the Colorado Rockies. Wacha is coming off a good last outing, but his previous two were not that great. The Dodgers’ bats were stymied in the Game 2 loss yesterday, but that will not be the case tonight. Add that to the fact that Maeda will have another good outing and that equals a Dodgers win and they will take this series.
Before winning yesterday the Tigers had lost three in a row and the first two games of this series. In those three losses they only totaled four runs. Detroit is in 3rd place in the AL Central four games back of the Minnesota Twins, who have won four in a row. Former Cy Young winner Verlander has been decent as of late and the Tigers have been giving him run support. They will give him some tonight, but he will not need much. He will continue his solid pitching against the Astros, who he has had success against in his career. Houston has lost four of their last six games, but they are still tied with the Colorado Rockies for the most wins in baseball. Fiers is coming off a good start and while he will be decent tonight he will not shut down the Tigers’ lineup. Detroit will get him for a few runs and they will win this game in a low scoring affair.
This game pits the Angels, who have lost four of their last five road games with Nolasco on the hill, and the Rays, who have lost seven of their last 10 home games. L.A. has won three in a row and they have taken the first two games of this series with great pitching only allowing a total of two runs. They are tied for 2nd place in the AL West seven games back of the Houston Astros. The Rays have dropped three in a row where their offense has struggled only scoring a total of four runs. Tampa Bay is in 4th place in the AL East 5.5 games back of the New York Yankees. Nolasco is coming off a good start where he got no help from the lineup and Ramirez has had success against the Angels in his career. The same cannot be said for Nolasco, who has an ERA north of 6.50 in his career against the Rays. This game will be another low scoring affair and Nolasco will have another solid outing out-dueling Ramirez and leading the Halos to the win.
The Mariners have had no success in the Nation’s capital in the last few seasons and they were crushed in the first game of this series. In their four-game skid they have only combined for four runs scoring a single run in each game. Seattle is in last place in the AL West 11 games out of first place. The Nationals have won two in a row after losing four straight and they are in first place in the NL East 6.5 games up on the Atlanta Braves. Washington is the only winning team in the division and they have the 2nd biggest division lead in the Majors. Even with the Mariners struggling and the Nats owning them in the last few seasons Seattle is the pick in this game because of the pitching match up. Roark has been lit up for 11 runs in his last two starts and the Mariners lineup will wake up facing him tonight. That added to the fact that Gaviglio will have a good outing equals a Mariners win, which will snap their four game losing streak.
