The Rockies lost their last two games of the regular season and they clinched the 2nd NL Wild Card after the Milwaukee Brewers lost their 2nd to last game of the season. They are led by their potent lineup, which ranks 3rd in the Majors in runs scored, but they only totaled six runs in losing their last two games after scoring 24 runs in their previous two games, which were both wins. The last time they visited Arizona it was a four-game set where they won the first two games, but lost the last two only scoring two runs. The Diamondbacks had lost two in a row before winning their last game of the season. They were 11-8 facing the Rockies this season. Gray pitched well to end the season, but his worst start in his last five was his last one giving up three earned runs. He will have a start similar to that in this game not getting lit up, but giving up a few runs. Greinke gave up two earned runs in last start and eight in the previous one. The Diamondbacks have lost four of his last five home starts against the Rockies, but that trend will not continue. He will have a solid outing and lead the Diamondbacks to a win and they will head to the NLDS.
The Twins had an amazing turnaround this season snagging the 2nd AL Wild Card after finishing last season with the worst record in the Majors. They won two of their last three games of the regular season and in that span their pitching was solid only giving up a total of seven runs. Minnesota took two of three games from the Yankees right after the All-Star break, but were swept by them in a three-game set in New York in September where they only totaled six runs in the series. The Yankees had won two in a row before losing their last game of the regular season, but they finished strong winning five of their last seven games. Santana had a good last start to the season and a solid one in his lone outing against the Yankees only giving up two earned runs. However, in both of those starts he did not get much run support and that will be the case in this game as well. Severino did not have a good start in his only one facing the Twins, but he will atone for that in this AL Wild game and have a good outing. The Yankees have lost their last five playoffs games, but that trend will end in this game, as Severino will lead them to a win and they will head to the ALDS.
The Orioles are not ending the season well, as they have lost four in a row and six of their last seven games. They have been outscored 26-7 in their four-game skid and they need a win in this season finale to avoid the sweep in this series. The Rays will finish the season under .500, but they have won three in a row after losing three straight. While they only rank 26th in the Majors in runs scored they have totaled 20 runs in winning three in a row. Gausman has been lights out in his two starts facing the Rays this season, but was lit up in his last outing. Snell was also lit up in his last outing, but has been lights out in his last two home starts. Snell will get back to pitching well back at home while Gausman will struggle for a 2nd straight outing. The Rays will take this last game of the season completing the series sweep and handing the Orioles their 5th straight loss.
The Mariners and the Angels were in the Wild Card race, but each has struggled in the last couple of weeks. After winning two in a row the Mariners have dropped their last two games losing each by a score of 6-5. Seattle has lost 11 of their 17 games facing the Angels this season. The Angels had lost two in a row before taking the first game of this series. Moore has not been bad in his last few starts, but has not gotten much run support. However, he will be roughed up tonight just like he was in his only appearance against the Angels this season out of the bullpen. Nolasco has also not been bad in his last few outings and like those he will be decent tonight. That will be enough to get it done, as the L.A. lineup will give him solid run support and the Angels will get the win and go for the sweep tomorrow.
The Diamondbacks have wrapped up the top NL Wild Card and they will host the play-in game. They have won two in a row and three of their last five games and they have the 3rd best record in the NL. The Royals had won two in a row before losing their last game and they are out of the playoff race. They are three games under .500 and they need a sweep in this series to finish the season with a .500 record. Greinke is a candidate for the Cy Young, but his last outing did not help his cause in what was his worst one of the season. Kennedy has to look forward to this season being over, as he has struggled big time and has not notched a win in over two months. While the Diamondbacks have lost five of their last six interleague games they will get the W in this game, as Greinke will rebound and the Arizona lineup will light up Kennedy. The D-Backs will take this game an ensure the Royals finish the season with a losing record.
The A's have been out of the playoff picture for a long time and they had lost two in a row before winning their last game. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games overall and in that span they swept the Rangers in a 3-game home series where their pitching was great only allowing a total of two runs. The Rangers are now out of the playoff race since they have lost six in a row. They are coming off being swept at home by the Houston Astros in a three game set where they were outscored 37-7 giving up double-digits in runs in every game. Manaea is coming off a good start and he was pretty solid in his last outing against the Rangers in an Oakland win. Gonzalez has been great in his last two outings one of which was facing the A's. In that game he got no run support, but he will get some in this game. Gonzalez will have his 3rd straight solid outing and lead the Rangers to a win snapping their six-game losing streak.
The Orioles are out of the playoff picture and they have lost three of their last four games. They only rank 27th in the Majors in team ERA and in their last four games they have given up a total of 31 runs. Baltimore has lost their last seven interleague games overall and have lost their last six interleague road games. Like the Orioles the Pirates are out of the playoff race, but they have won three in a row and four of their last five games. While they only rank 28th in the Majors in runs scored their lineup has been getting it done lately and have totaled 25 runs in their last three games scoring in double digits twice. Ynoa is coming off a solid last start, but the hot Pittsburgh lineup will get to him in this game. On the other side of the coin Kuhl will have another good home outing and the Pirates will take this game, sweep the two-game series, and win their 4th in a row.
The Astros have won nine of their last 11 games and they won the first game of this division series. They already have the AL West wrapped up and they still have a lot to play for, as they only trail the Cleveland Indians by two games for the best record in the AL. The Rangers have lost four in a row and their losing streak could not have come at a worst time, as they have six games left and are six games out of the 2nd AL Wild Card. Texas is led by their lineup, but they have been ice cold at the plate in their losing streak only totaling four runs in the four games. Great pitching match up tonight and both starters are coming off solid last outings. Both are lefties and while the Rangers are 9-3 in their last 12 games facing a left-hand starter the Astros are only 2-8 in their last eight home games facing one. Because of that and because Hamels has been great at home this season the Rangers will get the win in this game snapping their losing streak and keeping their very slim playoff hopes alive.
The Mariners have lost two in a row and eight of their last nine games and they are now out of the playoff race seven games out of the AL Wild Card with six games to play. They have been struggling at the plate in the last couple of weeks and in their last four games they have only totaled 11 runs. Oakland has been out of the playoff picture for a long time, but they are the hottest teams in baseball winners of seven in a row and 14 of their last 17 games. They have won eight in a row at home and they have only given up four runs in their last four games. Hernandez has not been sharp as of late, but he does have a lot of success facing the A's. Gossett has also been less than impressive as of late, but he will get a lot of run support and just like his last start he may not have a good one, but the Oakland lineup will be the different maker. The A's will win this game extending their winning streak to eight and handing the reeling Mariners to their 3rd straight loss.
The Nationals have won two in a row and in their last win they wrapped up home field advantage in the NLDS. They are a few games back of the Dodgers for the overall best record in the NL and it is unlikely that they catch them unless they win out and the Dodgers falter. The Phillies are tied with the Detroit Tigers for the 2nd fewest wins in the Majors and they snapped their three game losing streak with a win in their last game. They only rank 27th in the Majors in runs scored and they have scored two runs in each of their last three games. There have not been too many bright spots for Philadelphia this season, but one has been Aaron Nola. He has pitched well as of late, while the Nats have lost five of Cole’s last six starts. Nola will nave another solid outing tonight silencing the Washington bats and the Phillies will take the first game of this series.
The Royals have won three of their last four games, but time is running out for them with only eight games left, as they are four games out of the 2nd AL Wild Card. Their offense has not been great on the season, but they have totaled 30 runs in their last four games. The White Sox had won two in a row before losing to the Royals in the 2nd game of this division series. They are tied with the Detroit Tigers for the fewest wins in the Majors. Kennedy has not been that sharp as of late and he has not pitched well against the White Sox this season. The White Sox will get to him today while Giolito will have a solid outing. The White Sox will win this game and the series and really hurt Kansas City’s playoff hopes.
Every game in this series has gone to extra innings and the Brewers had a dramatic comeback in Game 3 with a game-tying HR in the 9th inning and then Travis Shaw hit a game-winning two-run blast in the 10th inning. The Brewers are 4.5 games back of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central and only one game back of the Colorado Rockies for the 2nd NL Wild Card. Before the comeback in the Game 3 win the Brewers were 0-54 this season after trailing after the 8th inning. The win in the game snapped Milwaukee’s three-game skid and they lost the first two games of this big division series. The Brewers are the home betting underdog in this game even though Anderson has been lights out as of late and pitched five scoreless innings and only allowed one hit in a win over the Cubs on September 9th. Quintana has also been solid lately, but Anderson will have the better outing and lead the Brew Crew to a win salvaging a split in this series.
The Rockies snapped their four-game losing streak with a win over the Padres in the 2nd game of this series. They are in the 2nd spot for the NL Wild Card, but are only 1.5 games up on the St. Louis Cardinals and two games up on the Milwaukee Brewers. Colorado is led by their lineup, but in their last five games they have only totaled 10 runs and they were shut out in two straight games before winning Game 2 of this series. The Padres have lost two of their last three games after dropping three straight and they are well out of the playoff race and can just play spoiler. The Rockies are 4-1 in Bettis’ last five starts against the Padres, but he had a terrible last outing. The Padres will get to him tonight while Chacin will have a good outing. Add those things up and you get a San Diego win sending Colorado to their 5th loss in their last six games.
The Cardinals have won four in a row and before winning the first game of this series they swept the Chicago Cubs in a three game set. They are five games back of the Cubs in the NL Central and 1.5 games back of the Colorado Rockies for the 2nd NL Wild Card. St. Louis has totaled 29 runs in their four-game win streak. The Pirates are reeling losing eight of their last nine games where their lineup has struggled only scoring more than three runs in one of those games. Cole has been struggling as of late and has given up nine earned runs in his last two starts. He has pitched well against the Pirates on the season, but he will not get much run support from a struggling lineup. Lynn has not gotten much run support in his last several starts and while he will not get a lot tonight he will get some and that is all he will need. He will have a good start and the hot Cardinals will take this game winning their 5th in a row.
The Rangers have won four in a row to stay in the Wild Card race where they are 2.5 games back of the Minnesota Twins for the 2nd spot. The Rangers have only given up 11 runs in their last four games with six coming in one of them. While the A's are out of the playoff picture and have the 3rd fewest wins in the AL they have won four in a row and they have won five straight at home. In their four-game winning streak they have outscored their opponents 26-16. Martinez was not sharp in his last outing and is a righty and the A's have won eight of their last nine games facing a right handed starter. Graveman is coming off a short outing and he will have a good showing tonight and lead the A's to the win. Oakland will get the home W extending their winning streak to five games while snapping the Rangers four-game win streak.
The Rays and Orioles are still in the Wild Card race, but their chances are very slim, as Tampa Bay is five games out of the 2nd spot and Baltimore is 5.5 games out. The Rays have lost two of their last three games and in those losses they only totaled two runs while scoring eight in the lone win in that span. The Orioles snapped their three-game losing streak with the win over the Rays in Game 1 of this series. They had been shut out in two straight games and they only scored three runs in the first game of this series, so their lineup is struggling as of late.
Cobb was decent in his last outing and solid in his previous two starts and while he has been much better at home than on the road this season he will have a good outing tonight. Jimenez is coming off a good last outing, but he will get roughed up tonight. The Tampa Bay lineup will rough him up in this game and the Rays will get the win and even this series.
The Nationals have won three in a row including the first two games of this series and go for the sweep tonight. They have only allowed six runs in their last three games and they have already won the NL East crown. Washington is a few games back of the L.A. Dodgers for the best record in the NL. The Braves have lost four in a row and they are well out of the playoff picture. They have only totaled nine runs in their last four games and they have lost six of their last eight home games against the Nationals. Roark had a pretty good outing in his last one in a win over the Braves and look for him to be solid again tonight against a slumping Atlanta lineup. Dickey has been shelled in his last three starts and the Nationals will extend that streak in this game chasing him out early. The Nationals will get the W tonight, complete the series sweep, and extend their winning streak to four games.
After winning four in a row the Diamondbacks have lost their last three games including the first two games of this series. They have only scored two runs in each of their last three games. Arizona has the top NL Wild Card with a 4.5 game lead over the Colorado Rockies. The Padres are out of the playoff picture, but have won three in a row where their pitching has been solid only giving up a total of seven runs. Arizona looks to avoid the sweep tonight and there may be no better pitcher to have on the mound than Ray. They have won his last four starts facing the Padres and he has pitched great against them this season. Lamet has pitched well in his last few starts, but has not gotten much run support at all. Look for that to continue in this game, as Ray will have another good outing against the Padres. Once again Lamet will be solid, but get little or no help from the San Diego lineup and Arizona will win this game and avoid the sweep in a low scoring affair.
The Royals and Blue Jays are each out of their division races and each is still chasing the Wild Card. However, Kansas City is 4.5 games out of the 2nd spot and Toronto is seven games out. The Royals have lost their last three games and over that span they have only totaled eight runs. The Blue Jays took the first game of this series and they have won three of their last four games overall. In the lone loss in their last four games Toronto gave up 13 runs while in the three wins they only gave up a total of seven runs. Junis has been pitching well in his last few starts and had a good start against the Blue Jays this season. Anderson has been decent since coming over from the Cubs and he will have a good start against the Royals tonight. Don’t look for a lot of runs in this game, but Anderson will have the better outing and the Blue Jays will take this game and send the Royals to their 4th straight loss.
The Indians have won two in a row after a loss in the first game of their last series snapped their 22-game winning streak. With their last win they wrapped up the AL Central and they have the best record in the AL. Cleveland still has a lot to play for as the Houston Astros are not far behind them for the best record in the AL. The Angels had won two in a row before a loss in their last game. They are chasing the Wild Card and are 1.5 games out of the 2nd spot with two weeks left so every game from now on is a big one. Clevinger has been lights out as of late and while he did not have a good outing in his lone one facing the Angels this season he has only given up one earned run in his last four starts. He will have another solid start tonight and lead the Indians to another win hurting the Angels and their post-season chances.
