Pitching Match Up

Boston: Eduardo Rodriguez (4-4, 4.19 ERA)
New York: C.C. Sabathia (10-5, 3.82 ERA)

Eduardo goes for the Red Sox tonight and in his last outing he was roughed up giving up five runs in six innings in a 7-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox have lost three of his last four starts including his last two where he has given up eight earned runs in 11 innings of work. Rodriguez’s only start of the season against the Yankees came on August 11th where he had a great outing going six innings and not giving up any earned runs only allowing two hits, but the bullpen blew it in a 5-4 Boston loss. Since coming off the DL he is 0-2 with an ERA of 5.08 in eight starts. The Red Sox have lost Rodriguez’s last four road starts.

CC Sabathia gets the call for the Yankees and in his last outing he only gave up one earned run in seven innings, but got little help in a 2-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners. The Yankees have lost three of his last four starts and in his last two starts he only gave up a total of three earned runs in 13 innings. The Yankees have won both of Sabathia’s starts this season against Boston where he did not give up any runs. New York has won his last four starts against the Red Sox and they have won four of his last five starts against them at home. The Yankees have won nine of Sabathia’s last 12 home starts.

Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Prediction
After losing four in a row the Red Sox have won three straight coming off a sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays north of the border. They outscored Toronto 16-6 in the series and they are in first place in the AL East with a 5.5 game lead over the Yankees. New York has lost three in a row getting swept in a four-game set against the Indians with one game being rained out. While they are 5.5 games out of first in the AL East they are in the lead in the AL Wild Card with a one game lead over the Minnesota Twins and two game lead over the L.A. Angels. Rodriguez is coming off a less than stellar outing, but he had a great one earlier this month in his lone start facing the Red Sox. Sabathia has been lights out against the Red Sox this season and the Yankees have won their last four games against Boston with him on the hill. That trend will continue, as Sabathia will lead the Yankees to a win snapping their three-game losing streak while also ending the Red Sox three-game win streak.
