In their last games: The Orioles lost to the Colorado Rockies 3-1 and the Twins lost to the Atlanta Braves 9-7. Baltimore’s pitching staff gave up three runs on five hits but their batters could manage only one run on six hits in their loss to the Colorado. In a game that saw a lot of runs Minnesota gave up nine runs on 16 hits and were solid at the plate with 13 hits, but scored just 7 runs in the defeat.

The Orioles have lost their last two games, but they still sit atop the AL East two games up on the Boston Red Sox. In their last two games they have only totaled four runs. Baltimore ranks 8th in runs scored and 14th in team ERA.

The Twins have lost three in a row and they sit in the basement of the AL Central 20.5 games back of the Cleveland Indians. Minnesota has the fewest wins in the AL. They rank tied for 19th in the Majors in runs scored and 28th in team ERA.

Pitching Match Up

Baltimore: Ubaldo Jimenez (5-9, 7.38 ERA)
Minnesota: Kyle Gibson (3-6, 4.67 ERA)

Ubaldo Jimenez goes for the Orioles tonight and he was not sharp in his last outing getting tagged up for five earned runs in only one inning in a 9-5 loss to the L.A. Angels. The Orioles have lost his last two starts and in that span he has given up 11 earned runs in five innings of work. The Orioles are 1-7 in Jimenez’s last eight road starts and only 1-5 in his last six starts facing a team with a losing record.

Kyle Gibson gets the starting nod for the Twins and he had a solid last outing only giving up one earned run in eight innings in a 2-1 win over the Boston Red Sox. The Twins had lost his previous two starts where he gave up four earned runs in each outing. The Twins are 3-7 in Gibson’s last 10 home starts and 9-26 in his last 35 starts facing a team that has a winning record.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Minnesota Twins Prediction

You’d need a crystal ball to know what type of game the Orioles’ starter Ubaldo Jimenez will pitch tonight, but his last two were dreadful with a combined 11 earned runs allowed over 5 2/3 innings. He has owned the Twins throughout his career and had one of his better outings this season against them back in April pitching a sharp seven innings allowing one run. Kyle Gibson has been mediocre all season which is a step up from Jimenez and with the Orioles recent pop gun offense 2.77 runs per game since the All-Star break, he should be good enough to help the Twins get the money.
