Pitching Match Up

Baltimore: Alec Asher (2-3, 3.62 ERA)
Washington: Joe Ross (2-2, 7.34 ERA)

Alec Asher goes for the Orioles in this make-up game and in his last start he went six innings and gave up two earned runs in a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. He is making his 5th start of the season and has made 13 appearances this season overall. In Asher’s previous start to his last one he was lit up six earned runs in only two innings in an 8-4 loss to the Houston Astros. Baltimore had lost his previous three appearances before winning his last one. In three career appearances, including two starts, against the Nationals Asher is 1-1 with an ERA of 3.75.

Joe Ross goes for the Nationals tonight and he did not have a good last start giving up six earned runs in only three innings in a 10-4 loss to the Oakland A’s. The Nationals have lost his last two starts where he has given up 11 earned runs in seven innings. Before Ross’ last two starts the Nationals had won his first four, but that was mainly because their lineup scored 62 runs in those games. Ross has given up at least five earned runs in four of his six starts this season, but the Nationals have won six of his last eight home starts. Ross has one career appearance against the Orioles and it came in relief not giving up a hit in one and a third innings.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Washington Nationals Prediction
The Orioles have won their last two games and are coming off a nine-game home stand where they won six games. They have lost their last five road games and they are in 3rd place in the AL East 2.5 games back of the New York Yankees. The Nationals had won three in a row before losing to Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers yesterday. They are running away with the NL East, as the only team in the division with a winning record and they are up 11.5 games on the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves. Asher was solid in his last start, which was at home, and shelled in his last road start. He faces a Washington lineup that has scored the 2nd most runs in baseball and a hot Ryan Zimmerman, who went deep yesterday, leads the NL in HR, and has four HR in his last nine games. He will give up a few runs, but not as many as Ross, who has really struggled this season and especially in his last two starts. Baltimore’s lineup will light him up in this interleague game and they will win in what will be far from a pitcher’s duel.
