Pitching Match Up

Arizona: Taijuan Walker (7-7, 3.55 ERA)
Colorado: Kyle Freeland (11-8, 3.81 ERA)

Taijuan Walker goes for the Diamondbacks tonight and he had a solid last outing giving six innings and giving up one earned run on only four hits in a 2-1 win over the San Francisco Giants. The Diamondbacks have won his last two starts, after losing his previous seven, where he has only given up one earned run in 11 innings of work. Walker is 1-1 this season against Colorado with a solid ERA of 2.41 and in four career starts against them has an ERA of only 2.77. The Diamondbacks are only 1-4 in Walker’s last five road starts and they are 0-4 in his last four starts after a Quality Start in his previous outing.

Kyle Freeland gets the starting nod for the Rockies and he was not very sharp in his last outing going six innings and giving up four earned runs on 10 hits, but the lineup helped him out in a 7-6 win over the Atlanta Braves. Colorado had dropped his previous two outings and in his last three he has lasted 17 innings and given up nine earned runs. Freeland’s only start against the Diamondbacks came early in the season where he only gave up one earned run in six innings of work in a 3-1 Rockies win. Colorado has won five of Freeland’s last seven starts overall and they have won seven of his last 10 starts after they gave up at least five runs in their previous game.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction
The Diamondbacks are hot, as they have won seven in a row and are coming off a series sweep of the Dodgers, who have the best record in baseball. Arizona is out of the NL West race, but they are in the lead in the Wild Card with a 3.5 game lead over Colorado. The Rockies have lost two of their last three games and they are still in the Wild Card in the 2nd spot, but only have a 2.5 game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers. Walker has pitched great in his last two starts and I see that continuing tonight. On the other side of the coin Freeland will struggle. He is a lefty and the Diamondbacks have won their last six games facing left handed starters. That trend will continue, as Arizona will win their 8th in a row and Colorado will lose their 3rd game in their last four contests.
