This year's Western semi-final is a rematch from last year as, once again, the third-place Stampeders travel to BC Place stadium to take on the second-place Lions. Both teams have been in playoff preparation mode since they each secured a playoff spot in October.

Head-to-Head Battle

This will be the fourth meeting between these two teams, with BC Lions winning the three-game regular-season series. They took the first meeting in Calgary 25-15, dominated the second game in BC with a 9-37 score, and then Calgary won the third contest 41-16. Interestingly, their playoff positions were decided by their third head-to-head match, which had less importance in terms of standings. Credit goes to the Stampeders for adapting their defense to counter BC's potent passing game. Calgary's defense only allowed three points in the first half and intercepted QB Dane Evans three times in the second. QB Jake Maier had a modest game, completing 10 of 21 attempts for 123 yards, as the Stamps were able to rely on their running backs, maintaining a lead for most of the game.

Recent Performances

Calgary's last significant win was the series tie-breaker against Saskatchewan, which they won 19-26 at home. This win secured their playoff spot, but substantial victories have been scarce this year. Out of Calgary's six wins this season, only two came against playoff teams, and in both of those games, the opposing starting QB did not play the whole game.

BC's last significant game was the tie-breaker against Winnipeg for first place in the West. BC took a 16-23 lead into the fourth quarter but couldn't hold on, eventually losing in overtime 34-26 as -1.5 favorites. QB Vernon Adams Jr. had impressive numbers, passing for 352 yards with one touchdown and zero interceptions. However, the running game was virtually nonexistent, with a combined ground yardage of only 48. Despite an impressive 12-6 straight-up record, BC has the same 8-9-1 record against the spread as Calgary.

Injury Report

Both these teams have been able to rest players in preparation for this matchup, resulting in a fairly light injury report. Calgary has two defensive linemen out, Terrell McClain and T.J. Rayam, along with two questionable defensive backs, Branden Dozier (calf) and Brad Muhammad (hand). BC will be without running back Kienan Lafrance and defensive back Jalon Edwards-Cooper.

BC Place Advantage

BC Place is an indoor stadium providing a controlled environment for the game. This can really help the passing game.

CFL Western Semi-Final Betting Prediction

Calgary is 6-12 for a reason, having been crushed 9-37 by BC when it mattered. This game holds much more significance, and BC has a legitimate shot at playing for the cup. Their motivation will be high, regardless of their inability to run the ball.
