The Yankees are red-hot winners of six straight games and in their streak they have outscored their opponents 60-12. They are in first place in the AL East four games up on the Boston Red Sox. Aaron Judge is the reigning American League Player of the Week and he has four HR in his last three games going deep in each one and he leads the Majors in HR. The Angels have lost two of their last three games and they have lost four of their last five home games. While they are in 2nd place in the AL West they are still 12-games back of the Houston Astros. Sabathia has been on fire in his last five starts where he is 5-0 with an ERA of only 1.11. he will have another solid start tonight while Ramirez, who has given up twice as many hits as innings pitched (18-9) in his last two starts, will not. The Yankees will take this game and extend their winning streak to seven.
The Diamondbacks have won two in a row and five of their last six games and are in 3rd place in the tough NL West 1.5 games back of the Colorado Rockies. Arizona is in the playoff race mainly because of their work at home. They are 26-9 at home, but four games under .500 on the road and at home they have the highest team batting average in the Majors while on the road they have the lowest. The Tigers snapped their three-game losing streak in their last game and in their three-game skid they gave up 27 runs while only allowing three in their last game. Detroit is in 3rd place in the AL Central three games back of the Minnesota Twins. Detroit’s Justin Upton and 3B Nicholas Castellanos are each riding 10-game hitting streaks. Greinke should be well-rested, as he has not started since June 7th after taking a small paternity leave. Farmer has been solid in his first two starts of the season, but the teams he has faced in the Angels and White Sox do not have a dynamic lineup while Arizona does. Their bats will get to him tonight ending his scoreless inning streak and Grenike will have a good start. The Diamondbacks will get the win in this game snapping their seven game road interleague losing streak.
The Orioles are coming off being swept in a three-game series against the New York Yankees and they have lost four in a row overall. To say their pitching has struggled lately would be an understatement, as they have given up 44 runs in their last four games and 30 in their last two. If Baltimore losses this game they will be .500 for the first time all season. The Orioles are in 4th place in the AL East 6.5 games back of the Yankees. The White Sox have lost nine of their last 11 games and they are in last place in the AL Central seven games out of first place. Wade Miley has been up and down lately and in his last road start he gave up four earned runs in a loss. Look for him to struggle again in this game in the Windy City. On the other side of the coin Pelfry will have another strong outing and finally get some run support. Take the White Sox in this one, as they will get the W and hand the Orioles their 5th loss in a row.
The Rangers are coming off a three-game sweep over the Washington Nationals where their pitching was solid only giving up a total of six runs. Their pitching was not so solid in recently getting swept at home against the Astros in a three-game set where they gave up a total of 20 runs. Texas is in 3rd place in the AL West 13 games back of the Astros. After winning 10 in a row the Astros have lost four of their last five games. They still have the most wins in baseball as well as having the biggest division lead. Yu Darvish was on the hill in one of the games in the recent series where the Rangers were swept by the Astros, but he will get some payback tonight. He has been decent as of late, but not gotten much support and he will have a good outing tonight in Houston. Musgrove will struggle some just off the DL and Texas will win this game for their 4th straight win and get to within one game of .500.
The Twins have won three in a row and the first two games of this series and go for the sweep today. They have only combined to score nine runs in winning three straight, but their pitching has been superb only allowing a total of three runs. Minnesota is in first place in the AL Central with a 2.5 game lead over the Cleveland Indians. The Giants have lost two straight and four of their last five games and on top of that they have lost their last five home game .In the two games in this series they have only managed two runs and they are in 4th place in the NL West 16 games under .500. San Francisco has lost six of their last seven interleague home games, but they are the pick in this game. Cain has been solid at home this season and will have another good outing in San Fran. Nik Turley will have a good debut facing a struggling Giants’ lineup, but he will not get much support. Just like the first two games of this series this contest will be a low scoring affair, but in this finale the Giants will get the win.
The Mets have won two in a row and three of their last four games. While their pitching has struggled this season they have only given up a total of eight runs in their last four games. New York is in 2nd place in the NL East 10.5 games back of the Washington Nationals and they have a ½ game lead over Atlanta. Yoenis Cespedes recently returned from the DL and in the first game of the double-header yesterday he hit a grand slam. The Braves had won three in a row before losing both games of the double-header yesterday. In winning those three games they only gave up four runs and then gave up 14 in the double-header. Lugo has a lot of pressure on him in his season debut, as manager Terry Collins stated he may go to a six-man rotation if he has a good outing. He will have a good outing, but Garcia will have the better one. Like his last few starts he will not get much run support, but he will not need much. Like the first game of this series the Braves will win a low scoring affair and salvage a series split.
The Blue Jays have lost three of their last four games and they are in the basement of the AL East 7.5 games out of first place. Their offense has been slumping as of late totaling 16 runs in their last five games. The Mariners have been one of the hottest teams in the Majors in the last couple of weeks, as they have won six of their last seven games and10 of their last 12. With their win over the Blue Jays last night they moved to .500 on the season. However, while they are in 2nd place in the AL West they are still 12 games back of the Houston Astros, who have the best record in baseball. Stroman has been pretty solid in his last several starts and he has really been backed by solid run support. However, that will not be the case in this game. Miranda will keep the Toronto bats cool and have a good outing and lead the hot Mariners to another win.
The Marlins have won three in a row and six of their last eight games. They are still six games under .500 and 11 games out of first place in the NL East. Their lineup has been getting it done at the plate lately totaling 25 runs in their current three-game winning streak. The Pirates are reeling losers of four in a row and eight of their last 11 games. Even though they have one less win than the Marlins and are in the basement of the NL Central they are still only 6.5 games out of first place. In losing four in a row the Pittsburgh pitching has been hammered giving up a total of 34 runs. Miami’s Marcell Ozuna has been swinging a hot bat with nine games in his last 14 where he has at least two hits. Miami is hot and Pittsburgh is not and while the Pirates are the home underdog they are still the pick in this game. He has only given up one run in each of his last two starts and he will have another good outing today and help the Pirates snap their four-game slide.
The Royals had a modest two-game win streak snapped in their last game and while they are in 4th place in the AL Central and seven games under .500 they are still only 5.5 games out of first place. The Padres have dropped five in a row where they have really struggled at the plate and especially on the mound. In their five-game skid they have given up at least 10 runs three times and they have given up 45 runs while only scoring 10. Still, even with the big-time struggles of San Diego lately they are still the pick in this interleague game. Chacin has been solid at home on the season and he facing a Royals lineup that ranks 2nd to last in the Majors in runs scored and did not get a hit until the 7th inning of their last game. Chacin will lead the way in this one while Skoglund has another tough outing and the Padres will take the first game of this series tonight.
The A's had won two in a row only giving up a total of four runs before losing their last game where they gave up seven runs. They are in the basement of the AL West 16 games out of first place and they have the fewest road wins in the Majors. After dropping four in a row the Rays have won two straight and with their last win they got to .500 on the season. They are in 4th place in the AL East 5.5 games back of the New York Yankees. This game is a tough one to call since both starters were less than impressive in their last start. I have to go with the Rays in this one mainly because they are at home and on top of that Cobb has pitched well against Oakland in his career. Tampa Bay will get the win and move over .500 on the season.
These teams have split the first two games of this series and with their win yesterday the Yankees increased their lead over the Red Sox to two games in the AL East. Boston had their three-game win streak snapped in the shutout loss to New York yesterday and they had combined for 17 runs in winning the three games. The Yankees had dropped two in a row totaling eight runs before their Game 2 win. Price was sharp in his last outing, but did not enjoy much success against the Yankees last season. However, that will change in this game since New York has lost their last four games and five of their last six games at home facing a left-hand starter, which Price is. Pineda will suffer his 2nd straight subpar effort and Price will have a good outing and the Red Sox will win this rubber game and win the series.
The Orioles have won their last two games and are coming off a nine-game home stand where they won six games. They have lost their last five road games and they are in 3rd place in the AL East 2.5 games back of the New York Yankees. The Nationals had won three in a row before losing to Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers yesterday. They are running away with the NL East, as the only team in the division with a winning record and they are up 11.5 games on the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves. Asher was solid in his last start, which was at home, and shelled in his last road start. He faces a Washington lineup that has scored the 2nd most runs in baseball and a hot Ryan Zimmerman, who went deep yesterday, leads the NL in HR, and has four HR in his last nine games. He will give up a few runs, but not as many as Ross, who has really struggled this season and especially in his last two starts. Baltimore’s lineup will light him up in this interleague game and they will win in what will be far from a pitcher’s duel.
The Twins and Mariners have the exact same amount of wins and while Minnesota is in first place in the AL Central Seattle is in 3rd place in the AL West 13 games out of first place. The Twins have lost two of their last three games, where they have given up 19 runs in the two losses and they are in first place in their division even though they do not rank in the top 20 in the Majors in runs scored or team ERA. The Mariners have won four in a row where they have been stellar at the plate and on the hill outscoring their opponents 40-10. Mejia has been pretty solid in his last few starts, but can he tame the Seattle bats, which are on fire? They may need to stay on fire with how Gallardo is pitching getting absolutely hammered in his last three starts. He may not have a great start, but will not get shelled and the Mariners’ lineup will continue to get it done at the dish, which means Seattle will take this game and go for the series sweep tomorrow.
The Phillies have won the first two games of this series and four in a row overall. While they rank 26th in the Majors in runs scored they have totaled 28 runs in winning four straight. Still, Philadelphia is in the basement of the NL East 15.5 games back of the Washington Nationals. Phillies’ Odubel Herrera is swinging a hot bat with nine RBI and seven doubles in the four-game win streak. The Braves have lost two in a row and five of their last seven games and while they are tied for 2nd with the New York Mets in the division they are still 12.5 games out of first place. Eickhoff was lit up in his last start while Foltynewicz was stellar in his even though the bullpen blew his gem. While the Phillies have won their last five games against the Braves they have lost their last four games in Atlanta when Eickhoff has gotten the starting nod and that trend will continue. What will also continue are Eickhoff’s struggles while Foltynewicz will have a good outing and the Braves will win this game.
The Red Sox have won their last two games and they head into this big Al East series in 2nd place in the division only two games back of the Yankees. They have lost both games facing the Yankees this season and while they have been solid at home they are one game under .500 on the road. The Yankees have lost three of their last five games and they have struggling pitcher on the mound. New York has lost Tanaka’s last four starts where has given up at least six earned runs in each. On the other side of the coin Pomeranz has been solid in his last few outings. Just like the club the Yankees’ lineup has been up and down lately and DH Matt Holliday is swinging a hot bat riding a six-game hitting streak where he has three HR and seven RBI. His and the New York bats will be tamed by Pomeranz in this game and Tanaka will have another shaky start. Add those things up and you get a Red Sox win, which will snap their four-game losing streak to the Yankees.
The Pirates have won two of their last three games and in the two wins they combined for 23 runs and in the one loss they only scored two runs. They are in last place in the NL Central, but they are still only 3.5 games out of first place. The Orioles had won the first two games of their last series facing the Boston Red Sox before losing their last two being outscored 12-5. After a hot April the Orioles really cooled down in May and they are now in 3rd place in the AL East 3.5 games back of the New York Yankees. Both pitcher’s in tonight’s game have been pretty steady as of late, but while Nova’s ERA is three points lower than Gausman the Baltimore hurler has been a little better lately. That will be the case tonight, as he will slightly outduel Nova and the Orioles will win this game in a close affair.
The Giants have lost two in a row and five of their last six games. They are tied with the San Diego Padres in last place in the NL West 12.5 games back of the Colorado Rockies. San Francisco has given up 14 runs in losing their last two games while the pitching has been their strong suit for the season. They rank 2nd to last in the Majors in runs scored. The Brewers had lost the first two games of their last series facing the Dodgers before beating them yesterday to avoid the sweep. In the tight NL Central Milwaukee is in first place with a one game lead over the Chicago Cubs. Samardzija has not been as bad as his 1-7 record suggests and he pitched pretty well in May. However, he has little success against the Brewers in Milwaukee with an ERA north of 6.00. Guerra has been great since coming off the DL and he will have another good start in this game. While the Brew Crew will not tag up Samardzija they will get to him for a few runs and Milwaukee will win and take the first game of this series.
The Cardinals are coming off being swept in a three-game series facing the defending champion Chicago Cubs. They are in 3rd place in the NL Central 2.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Reds have lost two in a row and five of their last six games. While they are in the basement of the NL Central they are still only four games out of first place. The Cincinnati pitching ranks 2nd to last in the Majors in team ERA and in their five losses in their last six games, which began with an embarrassing 17-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, they have given up a total of 47 runs. Martinez has been pitching very well as of late, but he has gotten very little run support. In his last three starts, where the Cardinals lost twice, he has gone 24 innings and only given up four earned runs while the lineup only scored three runs. In that span he had a game going nine innings and not giving up any runs and only allowing two hits and St. Louis still lost. He will have another good outing tonight and unlike the last few starts his lineup will help him out getting to Wojciechowski. The Cardinals will take the first game of this series, snap their three-game losing streak, and send the Reds to their 3rd straight loss.
The Nationals had their four-game win streak snapped with their loss to the A's in yesterday’s game. They are in first place in the NL East 10 games up on the New York Mets and are the only team in the division with a winning record. Washington will get slugger and early MVP candidate Bryce Harper back from his three-game suspension. The A's had lost two straight being outscored 21-3 before beating the Nationals yesterday putting up 10 runs. In their previous seven games, they had lost six only batting .196 as a team in that span and averaging 2.9 runs per game. Oakland sits in the basement of the AL West and they are 15.5 games out of first place. Roark has been solid in his last two outings and he will have a good start in this game. Gray will not get lit up, but he will not hold the Nats’ lineup in check and unlike the first two games of this series this game will be a low scoring affair. Washington will take this game and get the series win.
The Indians have lost the first two games of this series where they have been outscored 16-5. They have lost three of their last four games overall and are in 2nd place in the AL Central one game back of the Minnesota Twins. In the three losses in Cleveland’s last four games they totaled six runs while scoring eight in the lone win. The Royals have won the first two games of this series and three of their last four overall. While they are in the basement of the AL Central they are still only five games out of first place. Bauer has been decent as of late and he has gotten a lot of support and in winning three of his last four starts the Indians have totaled 25 runs. Skoglund had a great MLB debut in his last start where he out-dueled former Cy Young winner Justin Verlander. He will have success facing a Indians’ lineup that has never seen him and he will lead the Royals to a win completing the series sweep.
