After winning two in a row the Yankees have dropped two straight. They have a solid lineup that ranks 3rd in the Majors in runs scored, but they have only totaled two runs in their last two games and 13 runs in their five games since the All Star break. All Star rookie phenom Aaron Judge is mired in a 1 for 21 slump since the break. New York is in 3rd place in the AL East 3.5 games back of the Boston Red Sox. The Twins have won two of their last three games after losing three in a row and they are in 2nd place in the AL Central only 1.5 games back of the Cleveland Indians. Their pitching has not been good this season, but they have only given up two runs in winning two of their last three games. Cessa has not given the Yankees much luck this season and that will continue in this game. Colon struggled, big time, with the Braves this season, but for his new team he will be rejuvenated and have a good outing tonight. The Twins will win tonight and send the struggling Yankees to their 3rd straight loss.
The Rangers had won two in a row after the All Star break before losing in their last game. They need to win tonight to get to .500 and they are tied with the Seattle Mariners in the AL West 16.5 games back of the Houston Astros. The Rangers pitching has been solid as of late giving up a total of nine runs in their last six games. The Orioles are coming off being swept at home in a three-game set against the Chicago Cubs and they are tied with the Toronto Blue Jays in the basement of the AL East nine games back of the Boston Red Sox. Baltimore ranks 2nd to last in the Majors in team ERA and they gave up a total of 27 runs in their last three games. Cashner is coming off a good start and while his ERA is decent his record is not and has not gotten much run support. That will change in this game and while Tillman was not bad in his last outing he has been bad on the season and the Texas lineup will rough him up. The Rangers will take the first game of this series and hand the Orioles their 4th straight loss.
The Blue Jays won their first game after the All Star break, but then lost their last two games where they gave up a total of 17 runs. They are tied with the Baltimore Orioles in last place in the AL East nine games back of the Red Sox. The Red Sox salvaged a split in their last series with the New York Yankees and they have a three game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays and are 3.5 games up on the Yankees. The Boston pitching has been solid in their last several games, but their lineup has not total totaling 11 runs in their last six games. Stroman has been the best starter for the Blue Jays and he has six Quality Starts in his last eight starts including his last three. Rodriguez is fresh off the DL and while he will be rested the Blue Jays will not give him a good welcome back tagging him up for several runs. Stroman will have his4th straight good start and the Jays will take the first game of this division series.
The Giants have split the first two games of this series and this is the rubber game. They have lost five of their last six games overall and they are in the basement of the NL West 28 games back of the L.A. Dodgers. The Padres had lost two straight games before beating the Giants yesterday and go for the series win today. They are in 4th place in the NL West 23 games out of first place. Samardzija had a good start in his only one facing the Padres this season and he will be decent today. However, that will not cut it facing Cahill, who has been great this season at home and will have another great home outing today. In a battle of a couple of the worst teams in the Majors the Padres will come out on top at home in a low scoring game and they will win the series.
The Indians have lost three in a row and they need a win today to avoid the series sweep against the A's. They have only totaled six runs in their last thee games and in the two losses in this series they have only scored three runs off a total of nine hits. Cleveland is still in first place in the AL Central, but they are only 1.5 games up on the Minnesota Twins and three games up on the Kansas City Royals. The A's are nine games under .500 for the season, but they have won six of their last eight games and go for the sweep today in this series. They are in the basement of the AL West 20 games out of first place and 6.5 games back in the Wild Card. The A's pitching has been solid as of late giving up a total of 11 runs in their last four games. Cleveland has won their last four road games facing a left-hand starter, but that trend will not continue in this game. Manaea will have a good home outing and keep the Cleveland lineup in check and the A's will take this finale and complete the series sweep.
The Rays have won three in a row and four of their last five games and they recently passed the New York Yankees and are now in 2nd place in the AL East 3.5 games back of the Boston Red Sox. Their pitching has been superb as of late, as in their last three games they have only given up a total of four runs. The Tampa Bay pitching has had to be solid lately since they have only totaled 15 runs in their last five games. While the Rays are surging the Angels are struggling losers of five of their last eight games. In their last four games, they have only scored a total of six runs. Reigning MVP Mike Trout is just off the DL after missing several weeks with a thumb injury and in the first game of this series he was 1 for 5. Cobb has pitched well as of late and look for him to have another good outing tonight facing an Angels lineup that has really struggled to score runs in their last few games. While Ramirez has not pitched well in his last few games at home he is coming off a good last start. He will have a good outing tonight as well, but Cobb will out-duel him and just like Game 1 the Rays will win in a low scoring affair.
The Rockies were in the heart of the NL West race for most of the season, but in losing 14 of their last 19 games they have fallen into 3rd place in the division 10.5 games back of the hot L.A. Dodgers. They were routed in their first game back after the All Star break and they have not won back-to-back games in nearly a month. The Mets had lost two in a row and five of six games before the break before beating the Rockies in the first game of this series. They had only totaled one run in losing two in a row before blowing up for 14 runs yesterday. New York is in 4th place in the NL East 12 games back of the Washington Nationals. Chatwood had been solid for a few starts before struggling in his last three and he will have issues in the Big Apple tonight. He has given up eight earned runs in his last two road starts and the Mets will rough him up in this game. Lugo did not have good last start, but his last appearance was out of the bullpen where he was pretty solid. He will have a decent home outing tonight and the Mets will have the reeling Rockies another loss.
The Rangers had won three in a row before losing their last game before the All Star break. While they are tied for 2nd place in the AL West with the L.A. Angels they are 16.5 games back of the Houston Astros. Texas had scored 23 runs in winning three in a row before getting shut out in their last game. The Royals were swept by the L.A. Dodgers in three games in their last series and they need to win this game to stay above .500. They are in 3rd place in the AL Central only three games back of the Cleveland Indians. In getting swept by the Dodgers Kansas City only totaled seven runs in the three games. Perez was decent in his last outing, but the bullpen did not help out and he has had success against the Royals in his career. He has only given up a total of five earned runs in his last two road starts and he will have a decent outing in this game. On the other side of the coin Hammel will struggle like he did in his lone start against the Rangers early this season and Texas will take the first game of this series sending the Royals to .500.
The All Star break is over and both of these teams had disappointing first halves of the season. The Blue Jays have lost two of their last three games and in those losses they gave up a total of 31 runs. They are in the basement of the AL East 8.5 games back of the Boston Red Sox. The Tigers had lost two in a row before winning their last game and they sit in 4th place in the AL Central eight games back of the Cleveland Indians. Sanchez was rocked in his first outing off the DL and while the Tigers lineup has not been lighting up the scoreboard as of late they will get to him tonight. Verlander has been in trade rumors and unless the Tigers start winning the former Cy Young winner may be dealt to a contender. However, he is still in Detroit and like his last outing he will have a good start tonight. However, unlike Verlander’s last start he will get support from the offense and the Tigers will take the first game of this series.
The Orioles snapped their five-game losing streak with their win over the Twins yesterday. They are tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for last place in the AL East.
Baltimore had given up 15 runs in losing the first two games of this series before holding the Twins to only one run in yesterday’s win. The Twins have won four of their last six games and they are in 2nd place in the AL Central only 2.5 games back of the Cleveland Indians. The big question for Baltimore in this game is which Jimenez will show up? The one that has been shelled in two of his last three starts or the one who pitched a scoreless gem in the one win? He will not pitch a gem in this game and the Twins will tag him up. On the other side of the coin Gibson will have a 2nd straight solid outing and keep the Orioles lineup in check. Minnesota will take this game and the series and head to the All Star break in the heart of the AL Central race.
The Red Sox have lost three of their last four games and they are in first place in the AL East 3.5 games up on the Yankees and 4.5 games up on the Rays. In losing two of three games in this series the Red Sox only totaled one run and in the one win they scored eight runs. Boston’s lineup had been solid in their six-game win streak before dropping three of four games totaling 53 runs. The Rays have won five of their last eight games and their pitching has been superb in the two wins in this series. Archer pitched well facing the Red Sox in Boston in his lone start facing them this season, but has really struggled against them in his career and he will struggle today. Boston’s lineup will get to him early in this division match and add that to Price having a good outing and the Red Sox will win this game and salvage a series split.
The White Sox have lost three in a row and they are in the basement of the AL Central nine games back of the Cleveland Indians. In losing their last three games their pitching has been hammered giving up a total of 26 runs. Chicago is12 games under .500 on the road this season and they have lost their last seven interleague road games. Melky Cabrera is swinging a hot bat for the White Sox and in a seven-game hitting streak is 12 for 30 and has four doubles. The Rockies have won three of their last five games, but they have lost 12 of their last 16 games and now are8.5 games back of the L.A. Dodgers in the NL West. Quintana has pitched pretty well in his last few starts, but the Rockies’ lineup that scored 12 runs in the first game of this series will get to him. Hoffman will have a decent start, but the Rockies’ bats are the reason they will win this game. Colorado will take this game, go for the series sweep tomorrow, and hand the White Sox their 4th straight loss.
The Mets snapped their three-game losing streak with their win over the Cardinals yesterday. They are in 3rd place in the NL East 11 games back of the Washington Nationals. The pitching has been the main issue for New York on the season and they have given up 26 runs in their last four games. The Cardinals have lost three of their last four games and for the first time in 10 seasons they will enter the All Star break with a losing record. St. Louis is in 3rd place in the NL Central 6.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers. While the Cardinals rank a solid 7th in the Majors in team ERA they have given up 23 runs in their last four games. Wainwright was lit up in his last outing at home, but the lineup had his back in the 14-6 win over Miami. He will have a better home outing this time around. Wheeler will struggle again on the road and the Cardinals will chase him early and often. St. Louis will take this game and even the series at a game apiece.
The Marlins had won two in a row before losing in their last game and they sit in 4th place in the NL East 11 games back of the Washington Nationals. They only scored three runs in their last game after putting up 13 runs in winning their previous two games. All Star Marcell Ozuna had all three of the RBI in their loss to the Cardinals and he leads the NL in RBI and ranks in the top five in batting average and HR. The Giants had a six game winning streak recently, but they have dropped two of their last three games. They are in last place in the NL West 24 games back of the L.A. Dodgers. All Star Buster Posey has the 3rd best batting average in the NL, but for July is only hitting .111. Moore is the starter in this match up that had the better last start, but I think he will get lit up in this game. Even though the Marlins have not fared well lately facing lefties they will get to Moore in this game. Straily will have a decent outing, but the Miami lineup will be the difference maker, as the Marlins will take the first game of this series.
After winning six in a row where they were getting it done at the plate the Red Sox have lost their last two games where they have only totaled three runs. They are still in first place in the AL East with a 3.5 game lead on the slumping New York Yankees. Boston rookie Andrew Benintendi has 10 RBI in his last seven games where he is 10 for 24. The Rays have won two of their last three games and five of their last seven and they are 4.5 games back of the Red Sox. Logan Morrison had three hits in the Game 1 win over the Red Sox and in his last four games he has two HR and is 8 for 14. Pomeranz has not had much success facing the Rays this season, but he has been pitching well as of late and will have another good start tonight. On the other side of the coin Odorizzi has not been pitching that well and the Red Sox lineup will break out of their mini-slump and hit him hard tonight. Boston will take this game and even the series at a game apiece.
The Astros have the best record in baseball and in winning their last two games they have totaled 26 runs. They have won four in a row overall and they are running away with the AL West 16 games up on the 2nd place L.A. Angels. Houston is a MLB best 31-9 on the road and they have won their last four road games. The Blue Jays have won two in a row and this is after losing five straight games. They are in last place in the AL East 9.5 games out of first place. McCullers Jr. did not have a great last start, but he has been solid all season, which is why he made the All Star team. On the other side of the coin Nelson Liriano has given up five earned runs in two of his last three games and look for him to struggle again against a Houston lineup that is on fire as of late and leads the Majors in runs scored. McCullers Jr. will have a solid start and add that to the Houston lineup tagging up Liriano and you get an Astros win.
After losing four in a row and the first game of this series the Pirates have won the last two games. They have only given up two runs in the last two games. Pittsburgh is in 4th place in the NL Central seven games back of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Phillies have lost two in a row and four of their last six games and they have the fewest wins in the Majors. They are in the basement of the NL East 21.5 games back of the Washington Nationals. Philadelphia’s offense has been a no-show in the last two games of this NL series and they rank 2nd to last in the Majors in runs scored. Kuhl has been pitching well as of late, but has not gotten much support from the lineup. That will change in this game, as the Pirates will get to Hellickson early and often. Pittsburgh will take this game and in the process win the series and send the Phillies to their 3rd straight loss.
The Royals have won three in a row and five of their last six games and they are in 2nd place in the AL Central only 1.5 games back of the Cleveland Indians. They have outscored the Mariners 10-4 in winning the first two games of this series and in their three-game winning streak they have only allowed six runs. Eric Hosmer has an 11-game hitting streak with six multi-hit games in that span where he hitting .395. The Mariners have lost their last two games and three of their last four and they are in 3rd place in the AL West 16.5 games back of the Houston Astros. Seattle has dropped six straight home games where they have only totaled 14 runs. Vargas has been great on the season and is the early front-runner for the AL Cy Young. What is even more impressive about his season is that he is coming back from Tommy John surgery. He will have another impressive road start and while Miranda will also have a good outing he will not totally shut down the Kansas City lineup. Vargas will win a pitcher’s duel tonight and the Royals will win and complete the series sweep.
The Orioles have lost four of their last five games including their last two in this series and they need the win tonight to avoid a sweep. They have only totaled three runs in losing the first two games of this interleague series. Baltimore is in 4th place in the AL East 8.5 games back of the hot Boston Red Sox, who have won six in a row. The Brewers have won two in a row and five of their last six games and they are in first place in the NL Central 3.5 games up on the Chicago Cubs. The Orioles pitching ranks 2nd to last in the Majors in team ERA and in their four losses in their last five games they have given up 30 runs. Don’t look for that to change tonight with Jayson Aquino on the mound, as he is back for the big club after a stint in the minors that was not impressive. Garza on the other hand is coming off a solid start and he will have another good one tonight. Baltimore has lost their last four interleague road games and that trend will continue tonight, as the Brewers will take this game and complete the series sweep.
The Red Sox are in the midst of a five-game win streak and in winning seven of their last eight games they are now in first place in the AL East with a three games lead over the New York Yankees. In their five-game win streak they have been solid at the plate and on the mound outscoring their opponents 42-14. The Rangers have lost two in a row and five of their last six games and they are in 4th place in the AL West 16 games out of first place. Price has been pretty good since his return off the DL, but in his last two starts on the road he has given up nine earned runs in 10 innings. Darvish has not gotten much run support, but the veteran still earned an All Star nod. He will have the better outing tonight and unlike the last few starts he will get some run support. Price will not be battered around, but he will give up a few runs to the solid Texas lineup. The Rangers will win the 2nd game of this series, snap their two-game skid, and end Boston’s five-game winning streak.
