The Badgers were in prime position for a spot in the CFP semifinals right up until they suffered their first straight-up loss of the season in the Big Ten title game against Ohio State. They came up just short in that 27-21 setback as 3.5-point underdogs. It was the first time that Wisconsin failed to cover in its last five games as part of an 8-5 record against the spread to go with this SU 12-1 run. Wisconsin has always been known for its power running game, but behind sophomore quarterback Alex Hornibrook it also did a good job at moving the ball through the air with an average of 187 passing yards a game. The Badgers were ranked 21st in the nation when it did come to running the ball with 229.2 rushing yards per game. Freshman running back Jonathan Taylor led the way with 1,847 yards and 13 touchdowns on 273 carries. As usual, Wisconsin also boasted a shutdown defense that held opposing teams to 13.2 points per game.

Miami was also knocking on the door for a playoff spot with a perfect 10-0 SU start, but a bad loss to Pittsburgh as a 12-point road favorite followed by a lopsided 38-3 loss to Clemson as a 12.5-point underdog in the ACC Championship put an end to that run. The Hurricanes have failed to cover in six of their last eight games as part of a 5-7 record ATS and the total has stayed UNDER in 10 of their first 12 games this season.

Junior quarterback Malik Rosier ended his regular season with 2,917 passing yards and 25 touchdowns verse 11 interceptions and 24 sacks. He was less than accurate at times with a 54.8 completion percentage on 389 passing attempts. Miami turned to Travis Homer when it came to running the ball with 902 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 151 attempts. This offense as a whole averaged 405.5 yards and 29.5 points a game.
