TCU at SMU Game Overview

TCU opened the 2018 season with a routine 55-7 rout over Division IAA Southern University, but it could not cover the huge 50-point spread. The Horned Frogs closed out the 2017 campaign with a 1-4 record against the spread in their final five games while going 3-2 straight-up. The total went OVER 49.5 points in a 39-37 bowl game victory against Stanford after staying UNDER in eight of their previous nine contests.

The Horned Frogs scored early and often in Saturday’s season opener to build a 38-7 lead at the half. Shawn Robinson completed 17 of his 24 passing attempts for 182 yards and three touchdowns to help pace the win. He also added another 45 yards and two scores on the ground in an impressive debut at quarterback. Emari Demercado led a host of TCU runners with 57 yards on eight carries as part of the team’s 235 yards on the ground.

The Mustangs took on the North Texas Mean Green out of Conference USA in their season opener, but they found themselves on the wrong end of a 46-23 loss on Saturday as 3.5-point road underdogs. The total still managed to stay UNDER an elevated 71.5-point total line. SMU was coming off a straight-up 7-6 record in 2017 while going 6-7 ATS. It failed to cover in seven of its final eight games with the total going OVER in three of its last four contests.

North Texas scored the first 36 points in Saturday's loss before SMU was able to rally with 23 points in the fourth quarter. Ben Hicks got the start at quarterback for the Mustangs, and he ended the game with 252 yards passing, and two touchdown throws verse one interception. He completed just half of his 24 passing attempts. SMU is going to have to do a much better job at running the ball this Friday night after netting out to just four total yards on the ground in its season opener.

TCU at SMU Prediction 09/07/2018
TCU is looking to give Oklahoma a run for its money in the Big 12 this season, and it has to win the games it is supposed to win in order to keep climbing in the national polls. SMU should win a fair amount of its games in the AAC this season, but it is losing this one both SU and ATS.
