Central Florida at Connecticut Game Overview

UCF opens the new season as the unofficial 2017 national champion following a perfect 13-0 straight-up run last year. The Knights closed things out by beating Auburn 34-27 on New Year’s Day as heavy 15-point underdogs to put an exclamation point on this impressive performance. They went 8-4-1 against the spread with the total going OVER in eight of the 13 games. Central Florida was 3-1-1 ATS in five road games last year.

One of those 13 victories came against Connecticut in a 49-24 rout on Nov. 11 as a heavy 39.5-point home favorite. Both teams play out of the East Division in the AAC, so they do face one another every season. The key to keeping this current winning streak alive could rest on the play of McKenzie Milton at quarterback. He resumes his starting role after throwing for 4,037 yards and 37 touchdowns last season. He completed 67.1 percent of his 395 passing attempts. This includes 24 completions for 311 yards and two scores against the Huskies last year.

Connecticut lost its final five games last year SU as part of an overall record of 3-9. It did manage to cover the closing spread in three of those losses to post a 5-7 record ATS. The total stayed UNDER the closing betting line in five of the Huskies’ last seven contests, but it did go OVER 64 points in the late-season loss to the Knights. Connecticut was 2-5 ATS at home last year with the total staying UNDER in four of the seven games.

The Huskies lost Bryant Shirreffs as their starting quarterback on an offense that averaged 270 passing yards per game. David Pindell threw for 937 yards last season in a backup role, and he tossed four touchdowns against eight interceptions as part of his 159 passing attempts. UConn averaged another 146 yards on the ground behind a host of running backs. Kevin Mensah was the leading rusher with 561 yards and four touchdowns on 126 carries.

Central Florida at Connecticut Prediction 08/30/2018
The big question in this matchup is can UCF cover the three touchdowns plus on the road this Thursday night. The Knights are once again frontrunners for the conference title, while the Huskies could have a tough time posting more than three or four wins.
The gap between the two remains pretty wide, and I would expect the Knights to pull away in the second half of Thursday night’s season opener to win this game by more than 23 points.
