<p>
In their last games: The Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 and the Padres lost to the Cincinnati Reds 3-2. Milwaukee took a lead in the first and never looked back scoring four runs on eight hits while giving up two runs on five hits in their win. San Diego’s offense couldn’t get on track with just five hits and Cincinnati’s batters got to the Padres pitching for nine hits in their 3-2 victory.
</p>
<p>
The Brewers have now won four in a row, but they still sit in 4th place in the NL Central 15.5 games back of the Chicago Cubs. Milwaukee ranks only 25th in the Majors in runs scored, but are a decent 14th in team ERA.
</p>
<p>
The Padres have lost two of their last three games and they are also in 4th place in their division, 16 games out of first place in the NL West. San Diego ranks tied for 17th in runs scored and 25th in team ERA.

<h2>
Pitching Match Up<br />
</h2>
<p>
Milwaukee: Jimmy Nelson (6-9, 3.42 ERA)<br />
San Diego: Jared Cosart (0-1, 5.95 ERA)
</p>
<p>
Jimmy Nelson goes for the Brewers and in his last outing he gave up two earned runs in four innings in an 8-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Brewers have lost his last two starts. In his career Nelson is 1-2 with a 1.83 ERA in three starts. The Brewers are 1-4 in Nelson’s last 5 road starts.
</p>
<p>
Jared Cosart gets the nod for the Padres and in his last outing he did not give up any earned runs in five innings, but got no help from the offense in a 4-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. He will be making his first start for the Padres in their game after coming over in a trade with the Miami Marlins. Cosart had a solid last start, but in his previous two he gave up a total of 10 earned runs in nine innings of work.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres Prediction

The Brewers have been getting it done with pitching allowing over four runs in just one of their last seven with a combine average of 3.42 runs per game over that stretch. Today’s starter Jimmy Nelson was the lone starter to not pitch well for Milwaukee in the seven games, but he had been pitching well holding the opposition to two or fewer runs in five of his six previous starts. Nelson has had success against the Padres in his career allowing four earned runs in three starts covering 19 2/3 innings including eight innings back in May where he gave up five hits and two runs. Jarred Cosart will make his first start for San Diego and he’s coming off of his best start in a while shutting out the Phillies over five innings. He may be able to repeat that performance today, but the odds are against that with Cosart recording just one quality start in his last 10 outings. The Brewers are poor on the road, but they did take two of three the last time they were here in 2015 and they are the hot team here with on paper the superior starter and better bullpen.
