Washington at Vegas Game Overview

Washington is now just one win away from ending a decade of frustration in the postseason after taking the commanding 3-1 lead in this series. Monday night’s 6-2 victory in Game 4 as -123 home favorites was the Capitals’ most complete performance in their three wins. They opened up a three-goal lead in the first period and never gave up ground from there. Washington has played exceptionally well on the road the entire postseason with a 9-3 record in 12 previous road games. The total has stayed UNDER in three of its last four games on the road.

While left winger Alex Ovechkin and center Evgeny Kuznetsov have accounted for a combined 26 goals this postseason, six different Capitals tallied goals in Monday’s win. The top two scorers did account for five assists on those six scores, and three of the goals came on power plays. As potent as Washington’s offense has been at times during this postseason run, the play of Braden Holtby in goal is the main reason that this team is in position to win its first NHL title in franchise history.

Vegas did just about everything right in its 12-3 playoff run to the Stanley Cup Finals as part of its inaugural season in the NHL. Following a wild 6-4 victory in Game 1 of this series as -152 home favorites, the Golden Knights have watched things come undone over the last three contests. They are still a solid 7-2 at home in the postseason with the total going OVER in three of their previous five home games.

After outscoring Winnipeg 12-6 in four-straight victories in the Western Conference Finals before posting those six goals in Game 1 of the NHL Finals, the Golden Knights' production on the offensive end of the ice has ground to a halt with a combined five goals in three games. James Neal scored his sixth goal of the playoffs after Game 4 was already out of hand. Jonathan Marchessault leads the team in postseason goals with eight, but he has failed to light the lamp in this series. The other concern is Marc-Andre Fleury in goal after playing almost flawless hockey through his first 15 postseason games.

Washington at Vegas Free Prediction 06/07/2018

Even with the 3-1 series lead, a solid winning record on the road and a ton of momentum from its last three wins, I am still going against Washington on Thursday night. Vegas has been a very tough out at home all season long and in the postseason leading up to this series. Game 6 back in Washington could be a whole other story, but I think the Golden Knights have one more win in them in this storybook season.
